Purpose of DPSN

The purpose of the Public Seismic Network of Dominica is to build a constituency of well informed residents who not only know how to respond to catastrophic earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis but support hazard mitigation programs in the community.

We hope to add new members so we will be able to grow and expand. We also want to have fun while working on projects, collecting data and building equipment. By developing relationships and friendships worldwide, the Public Seismic Network of Dominica will become even stronger.

The data we collect is of value to Dominicans in understanding the island and the geological hazards present on it. We do not express views on management of hazards as this is conducted solely through the Seismic Research Unit (SRU) in Trinidad that is responsible for advising the government and directing evacuation. At all costs there should be only one organization handling this aspect so that conflicting instructions are avoided. The DPSN makes available data collected for the education of the island's population.

Our Mission
Our mission is to further promote geology as a hobby to our members and to assist and enhance disaster mitigation efforts by identifying and monitoring geologic processes and making the findings available to the community. We strive to make a difference by educating the public while having fun and expanding our reach.
